Remember those times when you go traveling to other countries, spending hours and hours slowly browsing through market stalls and pretty shops in Paris or London? Limerick retailer Sorcha Curtin has brought a flavour of so many places to her new venture Sequoia Lane. Well placed in the middle of Limerick City’s O’Connell St, walking in to this bright, fresh space and off the rainy streets, is therapy in itself. Amongst so many pretty things are a backdrop of French, rustic style furniture and mirrors. They are thoughtfully displayed in situ with lots of cushions, throws and accessories, so you can imagine what they might look like at home.
Those super-sexy Love aprons from Clodagh Mckenna are here, I want one for Mothers Day!!!
Other great mothers day gifts are anything from cute mugs, lovely notebooks, Pilgrim jewelry, gorgeous fur-lined gloves, jewelry rolls, and any number of beautiful things. Handbags hooks have really taken off and anyone wanting to get a cute gift for their yummy mummy can pick one up for just €15. I particularly love this bag, it looks like Chloe, but at €79, doesn’t cost like Chloe.
Home fragrances from Terre D’Oc are incredible and smell like warm cakes. With names like Autumn Tea Party- which smells of “Hot Chocolate with vanilla, honey, orange and dried fruit”, why bother baking. Prices start at just €5.95 which means I could treat myself with not much money at all. Top of my list of must-buys is the beautiful cloches, or glass domes. Traditionally there are used to grow delicate plants outdoors but these look too good and can be used as ornaments anywhere indoors too.
I’m a big fan of the Rice range of melamine cups and picnic pieces. They are fun, bright and hardwearing, perfect for kids. Silicone butterfly baking tins, outrageous rubber gloves, and flower-shaped scrubbing brushes make everyday tasks almost fun. I love the tin cake tins and candy coloured storage bowls. Oilcloths from Au Maison are a really practical way to keep your tables clean and they really brighten up your kitchen.
I plan on making it to at least one music festival this year so I’ve already bagged my wellies from Joules, though I can’t pick between the spotty ones or the starry ones. There are matching oilcloth jackets so I have no excuse. Then I can wear them doing gardening too so it’s win win. Blankies are like mini duvets in a bag, so if you plan on getting some sleep, take one of these. There are also super-soft stripy socks for lounging around in, and fab nautical sweatshirts and pjs too.
I’m barely up the steps of this Aladdin’s cave shop at this point, when I find wonderful gifts for babies and children. Magical Djeco jigsaws and art kits will bring out the Picasso in your little one, or in yourself! Fleurville changing bags are funky and functional and make a great gift fro Mum to be. Old school wooden toys are really hip and Dushi plush toys of ducks and dolphins are sweet and different and made in lovely bright colours. Fabulous, funky children’s clothes also make great birthday gifts and outfits for little ones.
If you have a wedding to go to, or just want a really pretty dress there are enchanting pieces here. Lots of comfortable but so-pretty smocks and feminine items you can really live in. Fans of outdoor wear will love the funky new range of jackets from Barbour; they have a sexy cut and are made in super-soft materials. The classic wax jackets are here too, as sported by Patsy Kensit and the cast of Emmerdale not to mention our own Maura Derrane on Feirm Factor. Brands like Musto, Aigle and Joules are well known to lovers of the great outdoors. Men can also find plenty of treats, sweaters, jackets, hats and weekend bags.
I was glad to find lots of things still on sale at half price; this is what you call a real sale, as there are still classic pieces on offer. To say I’m in love with this shop is an understatement, I just want to hug the owner and go back with my piggy bank and start bringing some of those beautiful things from Sorcha’s shop to my home. If the shop wasn’t already bursting with heavenly treasures, you can browse through lots of catalogues to find so many other items that can be ordered. All finds can be beautifully wrapped by Sorcha or the charming Manager Anne-Sophie.
