I been a sick bunny for almost a whole week now, sniff (violin please). But it is self inflicted after wearing a dress with no back on a chilly night outside the Wicked Chicken. One of them colds that thinks it a flu then masquerades as a cough for a day or two. After a twelve hour sleep (the joy of older kids and the child-minding of Playstation), I woke up today with a head like a plane crash, and about as cheerful.
Kids have busy social lives now and weekends are all about drop offs and pick ups and parties. With a ton of stuff planned for myself I was quickly turning into King Kong with PMS. So, I says to myself, I don't really need to go to anywhere today do I? It's amazing how many things we tell ourselves we "must do" all the time, even in our down time. So I cancelled everything, made sure the kids were being looked after and I took to the couch with a stack of DVDs and a big fire blazing, luxury! First I cried my way through the amazing The Way We Were, starring the too gorgeous Robert Redford (drool) and Barbara Streisand (double drool), amazing flick, boo hoo.
Next up was the brilliant Irish feature Once, with the fab Glen Hansard from the Frames. Between gallons of peppermint tea and honey, porridge and prunes (eek) I began to feel my soul and body heal. Sometimes we just need to turn off the phone and kick back in unwashed hair and PJs. I did manage to throw together some lentil soup as I'm so hungry I'd eat the lamb of God. So next up is Cinema Paradiso, another classic (not the smelly directors cut either) kleenex at the ready again, it's for my cold of course!
